How Does Laser Treatment Work for Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal uses concentrated light beams to target the pigment in hair follicles. When applied, the laser delivers heat directly into the follicle, effectively reducing hair growth without harming the surrounding skin.

This process is best used during hair's active growth phase, so multiple sessions are necessary for optimal results. Each session, typically spaced several weeks apart, significantly reduces hair regrowth.

Elsa's Esthetics Electrolysis & Laser, Inc's Hair Removal Services

We offer laser hair removal services for both men and women. Our trained technicians use state-of-the-art technology to provide safe and effective treatments for various areas of the body.

We can use laser hair removal on your:

  • Face and neck
  • Underarms
  • Bikini area
  • Legs and arms
  • Back and chest

You'll see noticeable results after just a few sessions, with most clients achieving permanent hair reduction after six to eight treatments.

Is It Better To Wax or Laser?

When considering whether to wax or choose laser hair removal, think about your long-term goals. Waxing offers a quick solution but requires regular upkeep, and hair regrows within weeks.

On the other hand, laser hair removal targets the hair follicles for long-lasting results. After a series of sessions, many experience permanent hair reduction, making it a time-saver. While the upfront cost is higher, consider the savings on razors and waxing appointments.

If you're ready to commit to silky smooth skin and fewer trips to the salon, laser hair removal is likely the better option for you.

Does Laser Hair Removal Have Negative Side Effects?

While laser hair removal is generally considered safe, some potential short-term and minor side effects may still occur.

These can include:

  • Mild to moderate redness around the treated area
  • Temporary discomfort, such as a prickly or stinging sensation during the treatment
  • Hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin, particularly for those with darker skin tones
  • Blistering or scabbing, which is rare but can occur in sensitive areas like the bikini line or underarms
  • Temporary changes in skin texture, such as dryness or flakiness

These side effects are usually short-lasting and will subside within a few days.

How Can You Help Your Skin Recover From Laser Hair Removal?

Following laser hair removal, it’s normal for your skin to be slightly irritated and red. Fortunately, there are a few measures you can take to reduce the chances of irritation.

These include:

  • Cool the area
  • Keep your skin moisturized
  • Avoid sun exposure
  • Wear loose clothing
  • Don’t pick at the skin
  • Avoid physical activity within a day or two of treatment, depending on your skin’s recovery

Prepare in Advance

Unlike most of the relaxing and therapeutic treatments that we offer at Elsa's Esthetics Electrolysis & Laser, Inc, laser hair removal is slightly different. The permanent nature of this type of treatment means that it is necessary to prepare carefully in advance before scheduling an appointment. When you schedule an appointment with us, a member of our skin therapy team will go through some of the things that you need to do prior to the treatment. Following these guidelines closely is important to ensure you obtain the best possible results.

  • Shave two to three days in advance of the treatment: When going for a laser hair removal treatment on your legs, it is important to find the happy balance. This means that you don’t want the hair on your legs to be too long or too short. Having it too long would waste much of the laser treatment on unnecessarily long hairs. Similarly, waxing or shaving just before the treatment almost defeats the purpose of the laser hair removal work that will follow.
  • Stay away from sun beds: At Elsa's Esthetics Electrolysis & Laser, Inc, we recommend our clients to avoid sun beds whenever possible. However, it is extremely important to do so in advance of a laser hair removal treatment. Failing to do so could leave your skin discolored and damaged. When the laser hits your skin, it needs to so at its natural color, and any change to this could prove very costly.
  • Be prepared for more than one visit: One of the biggest misconceptions that exists regarding laser hair removal is that it only requires one visit. Unfortunately, this is usually not the case. It is best to expect that you will need more than one visit for optimal results.

Please note a consultation is mandatory for first-time clients. We consult on the areas to be treated, if the candidate is a good client for laser, pricing is discounted for multiple areas and the number of treatments needed. Pricing cannot be given over the phone.
